Baguette has a phenomenal memory, and she remembers songs and TV episodes and books with no trouble at all. One day she’ll suddenly recite part of a Sesame Street episode that she hasn’t seen in months, and act it out with character dolls.
Just recently–and I mean just in the last two weeks, she’s gone beyond reciting, and has started singing. For the most part, she’s been singing the songs from one of her apps. But last night, as we were playing in the front yard, I heard her sing “Let it go, let it go.”
We’re late to the Frozen party. All of her classmates were completely immersed in it for months, and she showed no interest. We bought the DVD, and she paid not the slightest attention (Mr. Sandwich and I both enjoyed it, although we’d rate Tangled higher in a number of ways).
But last night, she started singing. And when I joined in, she snapped her head around with a smile. So after her bath, I pulled up the video on my laptop, and she stopped asking for her iPad and sprinted across the room to watch it with me. Twice.
I know the rest of the world either still loves this song, or is sick to death of it. And I get that. But you know how your kid does really irritating things, like ask “Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?” Ours doesn’t.
She can sing, though. And I don’t want her to stop.
That is awesome! Sing on, Baguette.
One of the stories on my new favorite podcast (Snap Judgment, this story was in the episode called “Saved”) was a story about a woman whose son didn’t speak for 7 years. Until a stray cat showed up at their house. His first word was to name the cat. He first showed his mother affection by mimicking the cat. He is a teenager now, and doing well. It was such an amazing story. There is so much we don’t know about how brains work and develop.
What an amazing story!
How absolutely wonderful. So happy to hear it!
The Hub and I would rate Tangled up there at the top, too. That one is so genuinely funny! Have to admit that I love the duet they sing on the boat when they watch the floating lanterns. But not for the love story aspect – somehow, to me, that kind of sums up what it’s like since Kidzilla was born and entered our lives. Just hit me that way.
Happy singing to you!
Tangled was a lot of fun–I loved the song in the tavern about having a dream. Actually, I thought Frozen had better songs overall, but Tangled was just so much fun, and both main characters had real growth. I also thought that Mother Gothel was a more complex villain than you often get.
Oh, this gave me such a big smile. Sing on little lady!
We’re delighted.
My daughter, who has always been into detailing the minutia daily life, has started doing so in song lately. I’ve been encouraging this, though it makes for some odd looks from strangers 🙂
The other day, we were all in the car and drove past a bus stop with a movie poster. I turned to Mr. Sandwich and said, “I just thought, ‘I wonder what that movie is about.’ And then another part of my brain answered,”…”
In unison, he and I sang like we were Idina Menzel: “I don’t care! I don’t know!”
